Zur Person

Sasha Prevost is a PhD student in Near Eastern Studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She joins the Buber-Rosenzweig-Institut as a Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation fellow investigating the cultural memory and revival of Jewish identity in Germany and Spain. In particular, she is interested in how religious interaction in the Middle Ages has been remembered from 19th century Wissenschaft des Judentums to the present. She traces these memories of Sepharad, Ashkenaz, al-Andalus, la Convivencia, and converso identities in modern phenomena such as poetry, the revival of piyyutim, and conversion or return to Judaism.
